Happy headless saint day Day!

Ok, I no longer subscribe to this sentimentalist, sexist, consumerist holiday that people like to call Valentines Day. I actually have reasons beyond that I'm just single. Surprised?
  • Where the hell did this holiday come from? Here all reasons I have heard
    • First option, it's a christian saint day, centered around one of several saints, one of whom was a martyr who was captured by Romans and then, after writing a love letter some chick, he was beheaded. Because nothing says "I love you hunny" like celebrating some guy's beheading. How romantic! Also, aren't you supposed to be in church on saint days? Which I guess works out because hey, isn't everyone's turn on sitting through church. HOTT!!!
    • Second option, it's a pagan fertility ritual. I actually have no problem with this since, hey, that kind of vaguely makes sense. But then everyone who doesn't want kids should probably not be celebrating it. Cause even if fertility does involve sex, I don't know a lot of high schoolers who are having sex just to have babies. Correct me if I'm wrong but hey, that's just what I see.
    • Third, it's just a halmark holiday. Then my question is: WHY THE HELL ARE YOU PEOPLE BUYING INTO THIS SHIT? Seriously. A company created a day to sell crappy shit. Who actually finds that romantic? Beh, not me, but maybe that's just my sense of cynicism talking.
  • Next thoughts on the 'holiday' is this: Why do people need a randomly chosen day to celebrate love? It's like people can only show their love when the media tells them to. "Darling I love you but it's not Valentines Day, so I can't really express my love or do nice things." Does that make sense to other people because it really doesn't make sense to me. At all. In any way.
  • Continuing on, we encounter the sexist side of this day. Men, you must all shower your women folk with flowers, candy and jewlery. Women, the only correct response is to ply your men with an excess of sex. World, meet Valentines Day. This isn't a very good explanation of the sexist stuff, I'm tired, so here, I'm going to link over to Pandagon's excellent post on the subject. Fun stuff here
Ok, so that's my rant about this stupid holiday. People who celebrate it, good for you but wow, I don't think I could. Ick. Makes me feel slimy all over.

Oh, and everyone should be excited for me, since I'm going to NY tomorrow night! Yay!
