A Madman & Her Bear

my day: now with illustrations

So my floor is all boxes right now because I'm, in a fit of boredom and oddness, reorganizing my room. But that's not really what I'm blogging about tonight. I just thought it was interesting, as all the small details of my life are. Or not. Whatever.

The point:

So I'm home for the summer now, yes, doing my share of exciting things and gearing up for Pride, which is becoming a bigger and bigger event around my place every year. This year, I'm actually hoping to march in Dyke March, party at the Pink Party, and volunteer at Trans March, as well as march in the big parade on Sunday. You all should come on out and join me, it's gonna be a fabulous time.

Ok, also not the point. You see, the problem is that I've picked up this habit of listening to NPR's All Songs Considered and when it's on, it's hard to stay on track, especially when they're playing new(!) tracks from Buena Vista Social Club that you've never even heard before. I mean, it's pretty damn tragic that Ibrahim Ferrer isn't part of it, since he passed away, and that I don't think Omara Portuondo is on it either but still, BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB! Le SQUEE!

Ahem.

But back to an actual point.

It's been a beautiful grey around the bay as of late. People here seem to hate it. I can't get enough of it. Sure, my garden would rather like some sun but goodness me if I don't just thrive on the rain. It's all the best bits of San Francisco weather, beautiful thick grey fog you can cut with a knife. We've not actually got a lot of the good fog but we've had enough to tide me over.

The morning we went to the Farmers Market was beautiful, a bit chilly, a lovely breeze rolling in right off the water and the grey hanging in nice and low. The market in San Francisco is right out on the pier, so you're walking right along next to the Bay Bridge through the stalls and there's all these lovely fresh vegetables and friendly faces and there's kids mucking about and ladies picking through piles of fruit and people standing by the railing eating market food. There's all these beautiful colors and let me tell you, as a photographer and as a person with an eye for color, grey skies do all sorts of wonderful things to colors. Makes them more vibrant and beautiful, more crisp.

We were out in front of the ferry building, looking at boxes of zucchini flowers when a woman carrying a mock orange branch showed up. It curved over her head, the flowers were so perfect and small and gorgeous.

We walked back across the Embarcadero, a man was playing drums, I gave him the money I had in my pocket, he kept on playing on buckets and pots and pans and drums, we kept on walking.

Well

So that's life in San Francisco area.

How's life where you are?
