Ok, you know what? This post is about one of my biggest pet peeves of all time. Note it and cut it out if you're one of the people doing this.
Rape is not what you did to your friend on a video game
You did not rape the test you just took, nor did the movie you just saw rape your eyes.
Though polluters are destroying our earth, they are not raping it.
When your team won the big game, they did not rape the other team.
Rape is not a punchline and it's not part of a hysterical story.
Rape isn't something you brag about
No woman asks to be raped.
If you have sex with a woman who is drugged or in any way incapacitated and unable to consent, you are raping her.
No does not mean yes.
No means no, so stop with the bullshit about what women REALLY mean when they say no.
Just because a woman has had sex with you once or any number of times, does not mean that she owes you sex.
There are so many more fucking stupid things people say about rape, I'll never understand.
But most importantly: Rape is not a compliment and it's not about sex and how attractive someone is. Rape is about control. It's not about how hot the victim is or how long rapist and victim know each other.
I'm so fucking frustrated by the backwards attitudes I see around rape. Stop it people. Rape is a serious crime that so often goes unpunished in our society, often because the attitude that the woman was 'asking for it.'
CUT IT OUT!
For a better summing up of my feelings on rape, check this post by Melissa McEwan at ShakesvilleRight now? I'm going to bed. Being this angry, it's tiring.

The term "rape" is not a compliment however your definition is too narrow. It is not just sexual assault. It can correctly be used to describe the abuse of nature. It is even the name of a root. Using the word in a broader sense in no way condones the act of rape against someone (almost always a woman). Yes, be angry about the act. But why be angry when the word is used to describe other violations?
How is it useful to allow yourself to get so upset by a word? You are not a victim of rape, and I know rape victims who you the term lightly. If someone takes the actual act of physical rape lightly, that is something that needs to be addressed. But words shift, so if they genuinely mean it in a different way I don't see a major problem. Worth getting annoyed about, but getting truly angry doesn't help anyone, it only hurts you.
