dwyn is slowly being absorbed by the stargate franchise and she cannot escape!

Hey folks, you know what time it is? It is sort-of-really-outdated-reviews-of-tv-shows-that-Dwyn-discovered-online-that-are-now-absorbing-Dwyn's-life time! Do you know what today's show is? It is Stargate! SG-1! Because I am doing a sci-fi thing lately. I am not sure why. I think it is because I heard awesome things about Battlestar Galactica, the one with the lady action hero, and then couldn't remember the name and started watching this instead and got SUCKED IN. BY THE CHEESE. But let's start from the beginning! With your brave heroes! And this is totes illustrated!

First, there is the leader guy. He is important. Also manly. Also really really manly. Did I mention he is the creamy manly center of the team? MANLY I think he is a clone of that guy from NCIS. They sound and act them same to me, ok? Oh, and his name is Jack O'Neill. And he is our manly leader guy. SO MANLY YOU SHOULD DIE!

Also, there is this other dude. He is the nerdy science type. How can you tell? He apparently knows every science-y, history related thing ever. Also? He wears glasses and is awkward. Frequently! He is driven by VENGANCE. A VENGANCE he must carry out on behalf of his sort of dead wife. She's sexy! He's a nerd! Now she's possessed by an alien! And he must AVENGE HER. Oh yes, his name is Daniel Jackson. I only remember his name ever because Teal'c keeps calling him the entire name. So that's a nice thing for him to do. Also, he seems to be pretty unaware of danger. If a building is crumbling around you, put the damn book down and run, ok? But he is a nerd type, so books are MOAR THAN LIFE. I can relate!

Oh yes, there is a lady on this team. A sexy sexy lady. She is Samantha Carter. She is a doctor who knows science-y stuff. She is also emotional! Loves children! Puts her job first, therefore is TRAGICALLY ALONE! Pretty much she is there so there can be romantic tension between her and the Manly!Leader guy. It's like the whole unspoken point of the show. I am certain that she would be more awesome if she maybe didn't give a shit Manly Leader Guy. Because the romantic tension thing between the male lead and the female lead is really boring people. REALLY BORING. Maybe I can vote that the romance can be between two male leads? Or female leads? Or, more RADICALLY, no romance at all? Cause that would be awesome.

And then there's the alien! He's also the one person of color on the show. I mean there might be others but I have not seen them. To be fair, I've only got in through halfway through the second season so yeah. But still! So he is an alien. And he's got a WACKY ALIEN name. Teal'c. And he's also got quirky alien mannerisms! Like cocking his head to one side! And sometimes saying things oddly. But really inconsistently. So I don't know, his grasp of language is weird. Really weird. It might bother me a little. Ok, a shit ton.

This show is obsessing me. I am sucked in. It is bad. I meant to watch Battlestar Galactica but I forgot the name and mixed them up and started with this one and now I am STUCK. FOREVER. My school work is DOOMED. And this isn't even a show I really like. I have problems with it! Feminist problems! Artsy problems! General tv-viewer problems! And still, I cannot stop watching. This is like that time when I got stuck watching the entire first season of Flavor of Love with my mom. I'm pretty certain these shows are designed to trap me in their addictive, awful web. OH GOD, I'M TRAPPED FOREVER! THERE ARE TEN SEASONS OF THIS SHOW! TEN! I AM DOOMED!

But let's talk about my problems. With this show.

Basically my big problem is the lack of diversity in the main casting group. There are two main-ish lady characters, Carter and then this other doctor lady who also likes kids! And adopts the kid that Carter adores! Kids people, kids! If there are other lady actors who are lead-ish, I do not know of them. Maybe more show up later? Also, all the main-ish people of color are either Teal'c or evil. That seems to be the thing. Once more, maybe this changes? Should I have hope?

Seriously people, can we have a little diversity? Not every action hero must be Tough Manly Action Manly Action Man. Can we have a little Tough Action Lady? Who maybe drinks? And doesn't love babies? And isn't totes looking for TRUE LOVE PEOPLE. This is why I am wanting to watch Battlestar Galactica. I hear tell Starbuck, the lady one, is the sort of character I will fall madly in love with. Because I am totally sick of lady characters who are so wrapped up in their jobs they have no romance except for their co-worker/boss dude. Also, they crave the babies! BABIES. BABIES WILL RULE THE WORLD.

Ahem.

Right, I'm going to blog more about this later but it is late and I am pretty much needing to crash into bed so I can get up at a decent hour tomorrow so I can start the process of actually making my room look decent so there is room for when Aleta is here! On Saturday! Folks, this is gonna be awesome! Tomorrow expect blogulation about the following: Teacher fights, JOYCE, photo projects, book-y things, tv shows, how much I hate drunk sports fans, and how to make a feminism class not suck.
