So I'm sitting here, in Leslie and Pat's house at about 11:30 and I'm typing my nightly blog while watching An Inconvinient Truth and something has halted me in my path enough to make me stop and type about it. Tonight I'll talk about giving up, something that's been so tempting so long.
We don't often like the idea of giving up. Giving up means weakness. Weakness is something that, as far as I can tell, people like to avoid. People like to pretend that they are all powerful and invulnerable. Or they go the opposite way. Some people like to pretend that they are all glass. And some people really are all glass and some are all steel. I'm not. I'm steel and I'm glass and I'm a million other elements too. I can break and shatter some days and other days I'm everyone's rock. I'm not an absolute. Sometimes I wish I was. It can be easier to be all one thing. Of course I know some glass people. Frequently I attract glass people. Why? Because I often present a both vulnerable and strong side. I can cry one minute and then be a protector the next.
I think it's that I like being a protector. When I make glass friends, I can take care of then and, more often then not, my glass friends let me do that. I don't like being sheltered all the time. People tend to think I like that but I don't. I may cry, I may not be the toughest person you'll ever meet but I don't like being seen as naive or unable to deal with life. Sure, I have rough days, doesn't everyone? But ultimatly, I am strong. I do a good job as a protector.
I can't even think enough to make sense. I just sort of ramble until something sounds profound
Doesn't everyone?
Quote of the Day
The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. But the opposite of a profound truth may well be another profound truth. ~Niels Bohr
